Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business

Tell me about the course
This course is designed for 16-19-year-olds who wish to study at a higher level in order to pursue a career in business or business management.

The aim of the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business course is to prepare you for progression on to a university degree course, a higher apprenticeship or employment in a wide range of job roles. Previous students have gone on to gain employment as a Payroll Administrator, Marketing Assistant, HR Administrator, Customer Service Team Leader, Trainee Business Development Executive, Distribution manager or Logistics manager.

This qualification will help you develop your knowledge of business theory and allow you to use your creativity and entrepreneurism. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the business sector including the following seven mandatory units:
1. Exploring Business – You will study the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive.
2. Developing a Marketing Campaign – You will gain skills relating to, and an understanding of, how a marketing campaign is developed.
3. Personal and Business Finance – You will learn the purpose and importance of personal and business finance and develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information.
4. Managing an Event – You will work as part of a small group to plan, coordinate and manage a business or social enterprise event and evaluate the skills gained.
5. International Business – You will study how UK businesses develop strategies to trade globally and consider the factors that influence the implementation of these strategies.
6. Principles of Management – You will gain an understanding of how the role of management and leadership in the workplace contributes towards business success.
7. Business Decision Making – You will learn skills relating to business concepts, processes and data to enable the formulation of business decisions and solutions.
In addition to these mandatory units there is a number of optional specialist units designed to extend the knowledge and understanding you develop in the mandatory units, and enable your tutor to tailor learning to your specific career aspirations. These may include:

The BTEC philosophy of ‘learning through doing’ remains at the heart of this qualification. You will use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations and demonstrate your practical and technical skills through role plays and presentations that will allow you to apply your skills and knowledge through work experience and practical work.

You will participate in visits to a variety of businesses, such as, the Trafford Centre, Salford Media City and the University of Derby. These trips will inspire and motivate you, and provide an opportunity for you to engage and interact with industry professionals.
What qualifications will I get?

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business – equivalent to 3 A Levels
What can I go onto next?
You could progress on to;
- a university degree course, such as, BSc (Hons) in Business and Management,
- an apprenticeship in your chosen career pathway,
- or employment within the business sector.
How will I be assessed?
There will be a combination of assessment styles which will give you the opportunity to showcase your skills and apply the knowledge you have acquired. These include:
- Examinations where you will provide written answers to practical questions in exam conditions.
- Practical tasks set in work-related scenarios, completed in realistic, time-based situations.
- Presentations and role plays
Entry Requirements

You must will need a minimum of five grade 4 GCSEs including English and Maths.

T Level Technical Qualification in Business and Administration (Level 3)

Tell me about the course
Primarily, this course is for students who are 16-18 years old. This qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed to work in the Management and Administration sector and prepares students to enter the sector through employment or as an Apprentice. Furthermore, the completion of this qualifications gives students the opportunity to progress onto higher education courses and training.

This qualification will suit someone who is not yet employed or looking to enter the Management and Administration sector post mainstream education. The structure of the qualification is designed to give learners the breadth of knowledge and understanding across the Management and Administration sector but also equips them with necessary occupational and core skills to enter the sector. This qualification is designed to support fair access and allows students to manage and improve their own performance.

Students learn about the following topics: 1. Contexts that organisations operate and manage in. 2. Key people and stakeholders that support business operations. 3. Quality and compliance standards that affect business operations. 4. Financial contexts that organisations operate within. 5. Key policies and procedures that support organisations. 6. Concepts of project and change management. 7. Business behaviours that influence how organisations operate.

Learners will also complete a 45-day work placement

In addition to completing the mandatory Core component, learners will have the choice of studying one standalone occupational specialism as listed below.
- Business Improvement
- Team Leadership/Management
- Business Support
This course is Face-to-face in the classroom. Learners will study GCSE English and Maths alongside, if they do not have a grade 4 or above. Learners will also complete a Future Focus programme that is a supportive wider skills development programme that enhances progression onto further study or employment.

Learners will also complete an enrichment programme also designed to develop wider skills.

The vocational course will be supported by visiting speakers and educational visits to help learners understand the skills needed in industry and also how theory is applied in a practical industry environment. All learners will complete Work Experience.

T Level Level 3 Business and Administration
What can I go onto next?

Learners can progress onto University or apprenticeships.
How will I be assessed?

The Core Component consists of two written Core Papers of 2.5 hours long and equates to 60% of the overall grade.

Learners will also complete an Employer Set Project lasting 25 hours and equates to 40% of the overall grade for Year 1.

Learners will also complete an externally assessed projects in either – Business Improvement, Team Leadership/Management or Business Support in Year 2 and will complete an Externally set Assignment lasting 32 hours.
Entry requirements

A minimum of Grade 4’s, including English and Maths.

T Level Technical Qualification in Accounting (Level 3)

Tell me about the course
Primarily this course is for students who are 16-18 years old. This qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed to work in the Accountancy sector and prepares students to enter the sector through employment or as an Apprentice. Furthermore, the completion of this qualifications gives students the opportunity to progress onto higher education courses and training.

Students learn about the following topics:
- fundamentals of financial accounting – an understanding of elementary financial principles, concepts and practices and how this content links to relevant accounting, bookkeeping, and business mathematics requirements
- professionalism and ethics – an understanding of professional conduct and responsibilities in the workplace and ethical dilemmas for the individual, organisation and professional
- data driven innovation and analytics and design thinking – an awareness of key requirements of a data governance framework and understand the main contemporary visualisation tools and when they are best used to support decision making
Learners will also complete a 45-day work placement.

In addition to completing the mandatory Core component, learners will have the choice of studying one standalone occupational specialism, which is Assistant accountant.

This course is Face-to-face in the classroom. Learners will study GCSE English and Maths alongside, if they do not have a grade 4 or above. Learners will also complete a Future Focus programme that is a supportive wider skills development programme that enhances progression onto further study or employment.

Learners will also complete an enrichment programme also designed to develop wider skills.

The vocational course will be supported by visiting speakers and educational visits to help learners understand the skills needed in industry and also how theory is applied in a practical industry environment. All learners will complete Work Experience.

What can I go onto next?

Learners can progress onto University or apprenticeships.
How will I be assessed?

The Core Component consists of two written Core Papers of 2.5 hours long and equates to 66.6% of the overall grade.

Learners will also complete an Employer Set Project lasting 12.5 hours and equates to 33.3% of the overall grade for Year 1.

Learners will also complete an externally assessed projects in Assistant Accountant, and will complete an Externally set Assignment lasting 17 hours and 25 minutes.

A minimum of Grade 4’s, including English and Maths.
