On Thursday 2nd October 2025, apprentices and employer partners from the University of Derby were recognised at the annual Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards at The Village Hotel, Nottingham.
The prestigious event recognises the impact of apprentices from a wide range of subject areas and shines a light on the fantastic work being done by employer partners across the region.
The University was proud to see Matilda Coe shortlisted for Degree Apprentice of the Year, Matilda from Derbyshire Constabulary is studying a level 6 qualification in Police Constable and was awarded a Highly Commended which is a fantastic achievement.
Employer partners Minnie-Me Nursery from Buxton were also finalists in the SME category, the shortlisting highlights the impactful and strong relationship University of Derby- Buxton have with local employers in the High Peak.
Finally, the University, is thrilled to announce that Kirsty Aveyard from the Nottinghamshire Health Care Trust has won the award for Mentor of Year. Ben Cope, Business Development Manager, University of Derby, accepted the award on Kirsty’s behalf. The wider university extends its congratulations to Kirsty on this well-deserved accolade.
The University of Derby is a proud sponsor of this event, with Tom Malpass, Business Development Manager, University of Derby-Buxton (UoDB) amongst staff who were asked to present an award. Supporting the event on the evening were Stephanie Traynor, Operations Manager for Apprenticeships from UoD and Andy Dowling, Senior Relations Manager UoD.
Dr Sarah Charles, Director of the Institute of Education and Skills, says, “We are delighted to have had so many nominees being recognised at this prestigious, awards ceremony. It proves that our collaborative vision is making an impact in the East Midlands- congratulations to all our apprentices, staff and employer partners.”
